Horrific Raid on Pensioner in £750k South Croydon Home
Police were called to a shocking incident where an 86-year-old pensioner had a mysterious substance thrown in her face during a violent raid at her £750,000 South Croydon home. The frail woman, who has lived at the property in Crossways for 34 years, bravely tried to fend off a gang of masked burglars.
Attack on Elderly Woman as Balaclava Gang Breaks In
The terrifying break-in happened just after 7.30pm on Tuesday evening. A group of five men wearing balaclavas forced their way into the pensioner’s home. When she tried to defend herself, the intruders threw a liquid substance at her face as she stood on her doorstep.
Neighbours revealed the woman sustained injuries to her face and neck in the attack. Paramedics and emergency crews rushed to the scene to treat her, thankfully confirming the injuries are not life-threatening.
Manhunt Launched as Police Appeal for Help
The Met Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers and remain at the scene. A police spokesperson said:
“We were called at 7.38pm on 18th [June] to reports of an aggravated burglary at a residential address in Crossways, South Croydon. An elderly woman in her 80s was at home when the suspects forced entry. A substance was thrown at the victim. We are working to determine what it was.”
Officers confirm the victim is receiving support and are investigating what, if anything, was stolen. No arrests have been made yet and enquiries are ongoing.
