Fatal Incident Shuts A127 at Rayleigh Weir

A pedestrian lost their life on the A127 this Friday afternoon at the Rayleigh Weir underpass. The tragedy forced the closure of both sides of the busy road for several hours, sparking heavy traffic jams on surrounding routes.

Police Respond, Thank Drivers for Patience

Assistant Chief Constable Andy Prophet described the incident as “very sad” and praised the Essex Roads Policing unit for their swift response. He also thanked motorists for bearing with the disruption.

Detective Inspector Rob Brettell defended the tough decision to close both carriageways. “We only close roads when there is a totally valid operational reason and we understand the frustration it causes. Apologies for any delays,” he said.

Police Appeal for Dashcam Footage

Officers are urging anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the incident to come forward. You can contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting incident 631 of 21 February.
