Sabotage Shocker: Police Van Targeted in Newquay

Devon & Cornwall Police have launched an urgent appeal after a police van was left crawling with danger in Newquay. Thugs slashed the van’s fuel pipe and tampered with its brakes, risking officers’ and public lives. Luck was on their side when a sharp-eyed officer spotted the sabotage before disaster struck.

When and Where It Happened

The marked Ford Transit was parked in a designated police spot outside Newquay Police Station on Tolcarne Road, next to the railway station. The attack happened sometime between 3.30pm on 15th April and 9.30am the next day.

Quick-Thinking Saves Lives

It was an officer attending a call who noticed a large puddle of fuel under the van. A mechanic was called in and confirmed the fuel pipe was cut and the rear brake pipe tampered with.

Inspector Guy Blackford warned: “This deliberate act could have resulted in a serious accident involving officers and members of the public. We were fortunate that officers spotted the damage early in their shift.”
