Met Police to Flood London Streets This Weekend After Surge in Murders
More Cops on Patrol to Smash Violence
The Met is sending extra officers across London this weekend to tackle a recent spike in murders and crack down on illegal music parties. Units from the Violent Crime Task Force, Trident, armed teams, and the brand-new Violence Suppression Units will join local cops on the ground to keep the city safe.
Targeting Violent Offenders Hard and Fast
Police say they will hit hard and fast against the troublemakers who cause the most damage in communities, using all available tactics. They are ready to respond swiftly to any outbreaks of violence or disorder.
Top Cop Sounds Alarm on Rising Violence and Raves
DAC Lucy D’Orsi, Gold Commander this weekend, said: “The past week has seen lives lost needlessly. Any number of murders is too many, but we’re alarmed by the rise recently.”
She added unlicensed music events are also on the rise, causing major disruption and even sparking violence that affects partygoers and officers alike. These raves also heighten COVID-19 risks.
Community Cooperation Crucial to Stop Violence
“Violence remains the Met’s top priority,” D’Orsi stressed. “Officers will be out in force, engaging with communities and using tactics like stop and search to keep people safe.”
She urged the public: “We can’t do this without you. If you have info to prevent violence or worry about someone, contact us so we can act.”
