Digger Raid: Man Arrested After ATM Theft in Hurstpierpoint

Police have arrested a man following a brazen ATM theft in Hurstpierpoint. The cash machine was ripped from a Nationwide Building Society branch in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Cash Machine Hauled Out With Digger

Officers were called at 3.45am on September 5 after a digger smashed through the side of the High Street bank. The thieves yanked the ATM from the wall and loaded it into a waiting white Luton van, which sped westwards.

Van and ATM Recovered, Suspect in Custody

The stolen van and cash machine were found by police later that morning. A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possessing tools for theft. He’s now out on conditional bail until October 4, while enquiries continue.

Police Urge Witnesses to Speak Up

Police are asking anyone who saw the digger or white van in the area that night to come forward. Witnesses can report information online or by calling 101, quoting Operation Brunch.
