Man Busted After Brutal Daytime Mugging in Marlborough Park
A horrific robbery unfolded yesterday morning in Marlborough when a woman in her 60s was viciously attacked while walking her dog. The shocking assault happened around 9.40am in West Woods, leaving the victim bruised but thankfully not seriously injured.
Victim Punched and Beaten with Her Own Phone
The thug repeatedly punched the woman in the face, knocking her to the ground. Then he snatched her mobile phone and battered her with it before making a quick getaway.
Thankfully, the shaken victim got help from two passersby who immediately called the police.
Suspect Spotted and Caught After Foot Chase Near Marlborough College
Thanks to detailed descriptions from the victim and witnesses, officers quickly identified a suspect hanging around near Marlborough College. The man took off on foot but was caught after a brief chase. He was later arrested on suspicion of robbery.
The arrested man, in his 30s from Devizes, was taken to Gablecross police station for questioning and has since been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Police Reassure Public After Swift Action
“Residents would have no doubt seen a large police presence in the area after officers attended the scene to conduct area searches following this initial report and we were pleased to be able to make an early arrest,” said Acting Inspector Leighton Williams.
“No doubt this would have been a frightening and upsetting experience for the victim. Fortunately, she wasn’t seriously injured but has been left very shaken up. I want to reassure the community that this was an isolated incident that was dealt with swiftly.
I have asked my colleagues to ensure there is a heightened presence in and around the Marlborough area to offer additional reassurance.”
