Tragic Death After Crush at Brixton O2 Academy

Police continue their probe into the chaos at Brixton O2 Academy on Thursday, 15 December. Heartbreakingly, 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo from Newham, one of the women critically injured in the crowd crush, died in hospital on Saturday morning, 17 December.

Four Struggling for Life After Incident

Rebecca’s family are being supported by specialist officers. Meanwhile, two other women, aged 21 and 23, remain in a critical condition. A post-mortem on Rebecca is set for Sunday, 18 December at Greenwich Public Mortuary.

Police Urge Witnesses to Step Forward

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove, leading the investigation, spoke at the scene:

“I’d like to extend my sympathies to all those affected. We’ve seen distressing images online, and our thoughts are with everyone involved. An urgent investigation is underway by our Specialist Crime Command. Officers are still working at the scene, and we’re piecing together what happened.”

He added:

“There’s a vast amount of footage on social media and from officers’ body cams, all being reviewed. We’re working closely with community partners and thank everyone who has helped so far. We urge witnesses to come forward — there were around 4,000 people there, and any information is vital.

An online page is now live for submitting photos and videos related to the incident. Anyone who witnessed the crush but hasn’t spoken to police should call 101, quoting reference 6725/15Dec.”
