Police Crackdown on Dangerous Driving in ‘One Road, One Week’ Campaign

Thames Valley Police and Hampshire Constabulary have joined forces with the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) to launch the high-impact One Road, One Week road safety blitz. The campaign aims to clamp down on reckless driving and save lives across the region.

Targeting the Deadly ‘Fatal Four’

From 14-18 September, officers from the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit will hit the streets, engaging with the public and cracking down on dangerous behaviour. Their focus will be the notorious fatal four:

  • Speeding
  • Using a mobile phone while driving
  • Failing to wear a seatbelt
  • Drink and drug driving

All four are proven killers on UK roads, dramatically increasing the risk of serious or fatal accidents.

Project EDWARD Teams Up for Extra Impact

The NPCC is also backing Project EDWARD (Every Day Without A Road Death), a nationwide initiative spotlighting road safety, especially for work drivers. This week-long campaign features a virtual road trip with experts and organisations sharing daily safety themes. Details are available on the Project EDWARD website.

‘It’s Not Worth the Risk’ – Police Warn Drivers

“Despite a slight dip in road deaths last year, too many people are still losing their lives on our roads,” said Road Safety Sergeant Scott Kerr of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit.

“Everyone has a part to play – educate yourself and change your habits. Simple things like checking your tyres regularly and silencing your phone can make a huge difference.

“We’re still stopping drivers without insurance, tax, or even a licence – but the real danger is drink and drug driving. Even a small amount impairs your ability and risks lives. The consequences for victims and offenders are devastating.

“This campaign aims to educate all road users – drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians – to help make our roads safer.”

Keep your eyes peeled for police on patrol this week. Drive smart. Stay alive.
