Body Found in Alice Holt Forest Confirmed as Missing Diplomat Richard Morris
Police have confirmed that the body discovered in Alice Holt Forest on Monday, 31 August, is that of 52-year-old Richard Morris.
Richard, from Bentley, was reported missing on 6 May 2020. Formal ID procedures are complete, and his family has been informed. Specialist officers are now supporting them through this difficult time.
Tributes Pour In for Beloved Diplomat and Family Man
In a heartfelt statement, Richard’s family paid tribute to him:
“From childhood European holidays to a US university scholarship and serving as Ambassador to Nepal, Richard loved to travel.
“Described by colleagues as funny, kind, and smart, he dedicated nearly 30 years to the FCO with integrity and professionalism.
“His empathy and kindness earned him worldwide respect, shown in the outpouring of messages we’ve received from friends across the globe.
“An enthusiastic weekend trail runner, Richard completed five marathons on four continents, including one in Nepal, where he raised funds for Changing Faces— a UK charity he proudly supported as a trustee.
“Above all, Richard was a devoted family man—a loving husband, father, son, and brother. He showed us the world, but we were his world. We are devastated by his loss.
“We thank everyone who has supported us through these difficult months.”

Hampshire Constabulary also expressed gratitude to everyone who stayed vigilant, aided the search, and assisted with the investigation into Richard’s disappearance.
