Newborn Baby Dies After Suspected Abuse – Parents Arrested
A heart-wrenching case has unfolded in Barnsley after a two-day-old baby girl, Keira-Mae, was rushed to hospital with severe injuries. The newborn’s parents have now been arrested on suspicion of murder as police launch a full investigation.
Baby’s Life Support Turned Off After Tragic Injuries
Keira-Mae was admitted to Barnsley Hospital on May 16 with shocking injuries that raised immediate suspicion among medical staff. Despite intensive care, she never recovered. Doctors made the grim decision this week to switch off her life support, and the infant tragically passed away.
Following her death, her mother, 31-year-old Aimee Jones, and father, 38-year-old Alex Jones, were arrested on suspicion of murder.
Community Shocked as Details Emerge
Neighbours revealed they were aware of the baby’s hospitalisation but had no idea how her injuries happened. In July, Aimee Jones posted on Facebook about their daughter being in intensive care with little chance of survival, but kept details vague.
“The injuries were so catastrophic they justified an investigation,” said Detective Chief Inspector Phil Etheridge. “We have a dedicated team working to uncover exactly what happened.”
Police Plea: No Speculation, Share Info
DCI Etheridge urged the community to avoid speculation on social media and encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
