Rishi Sunak Confronts Shocking Allegations Against Tory MP
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak faced tough questions on Monday about serious claims against an unnamed Conservative MP. He described the accusations as “very serious” but stood firm defending the party’s complaint procedures, calling them robust amid growing public outrage.
Police Urged to Investigate as Pressure Mounts
Sunak urged anyone with evidence of criminal acts to report directly to the police, following calls for a full investigation into how the Tory Party handled the allegations internally. Former Tory chairman Sir Jake Berry has reportedly written to the police, accusing the party of an “internal failure” that let the accused MP “continue to offend.”
Alleged Victims and Disturbing Claims
According to the Mail on Sunday, one alleged victim is receiving financial support from the party. Berry warned the issue has dragged on for two years, potentially involving multiple victims and a string of offences — including several rapes.
The accused MP, named only as “X” for legal reasons, remains unnamed amid a live police investigation. Speaking at the Bacton Gas Terminal, Sunak declined to add details but confirmed the serious nature of the anonymous allegations.
Deputy PM Vows “Zero Tolerance” on Misconduct
Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden, co-chair of the Tory Party from 2021 to 2022, promised a “zero tolerance approach” to sexual misconduct claims. He stressed victims must report incidents to the police and denied any cover-up during his time in charge of the party.
