Suspect’s Shifty Driving Snags Secret Stash of Drugs and Cash
A young drug dealer’s dodgy driving gave him away – and led cops straight to a hidden haul of drugs and thousands in cash.
Shifty Fiat Bravo Sparks Police Suspicion
On 15 August, officers patrolling South Ockendon spotted Shaquille Parchment behind the wheel of a Fiat Bravo acting strangely, apparently trying to lose the marked police car tailing him.
Police stopped the car on Hatfield Road, Chafford Hundred, and questioned Parchment and his passenger. He tried to dodge detection by giving a false name, but an officer recognised him. A fingerprint check confirmed his real identity.
Checks revealed Parchment had no driving licence or insurance.
Hidden Drugs and Cash Found on Search
- Officers smelled cannabis and found remnants inside the car.
- Cocaine was cunningly concealed in a roll-on deodorant bottle.
- Cannabis was discovered in the centre console.
- Parchment was caught with a flick knife hidden in his boxer shorts and around £200 in cash.
- At his home on Hedingham Road, Chafford Hundred, police seized large amounts of cannabis bud, scales, deal bags, and a whopping £4,300 in cash.
The seized drugs had a street value of up to £3,680.
Young Dealer Jailed After Court Appearance
Parchment, 19, appeared at Southend Magistrates’ Court on 17 August, admitting charges including possession with intent to supply cocaine and cannabis, carrying a bladed article, obstructing officers, and driving offences.
At Basildon Crown Court on 1 October, he was jailed for three years and four months in a Young Offender Institution. He was also found to be breaching a suspended sentence.
All seized drugs, mobile phones, and the knife will be destroyed.
Police Warn Against Life of Crime
“Parchment tried to evade police but was caught red handed. He now finds himself in prison, and we are applying to seize any money he made through criminal means,” said Pc Jon Kemp of Operation Raptor West.
“Having a criminal record is just one of the risks of being involved in gangs. You can lose your freedom and jeopardise your future.”
“There are other ways to earn money, respect and a comfortable life that don’t involve risking your freedom or endangering yourself.”
