Massive Wedding Bash Shut Down by Police for Flouting COVID Rules
Police crashed a huge wedding party with around 250 guests on Old Kent Road after neighbours thought a break-in was happening. The big bash, held on Sunday night, saw shutters slammed shut in a bid to hide the illegal gathering.
Neighbours Suspicious, Police Called In
Officers arrived at 8.20pm after locals reported possible burglary. Instead, they found a packed wedding with no social distancing and total disregard for Government COVID guidelines.
Party Shut Down, Fines on the Table
Police quickly dispersed the crowd. Two attendees were warned they face fixed penalty fines. A specialist crime team will now review the case and decide on further action.
Top Cop Warns Against Rule-Breaking Celebrations
Detective Superintendent Nicky Arrowsmith blasted the event, saying: “This was a blatant breach of the regulations and could have been a breeding ground for transmitting the virus.”
“There were over 200 people inside, no social distancing and indeed no attempts to make the venue COVID secure, in line with the Government guidelines.”
“The guidelines are there for a reason, to keep people safe.”
“Being reported for a fine is clearly not a wedding present people would be expecting, however as this was such a flagrant breach of the regulations, it was entirely necessary.”
“Officers across the Met will continue our efforts to keep London safe by shutting down those events which deliberately and dangerously put people’s health at risk.”
“If you are planning a wedding this weekend please make sure it falls within the current regulations.”
