Drug Dealer’s Quick Escape Foiled by Police in Peterborough
Musiwa Kanhukamwe, 28, was caught red-handed after a daring run from police on All Saints Road, Peterborough, last April. Officers spotted him and another man acting suspiciously and gave chase. While the other man got away, Kanhukamwe was tackled and searched.
Heroic Police Stop Dealer From Swallowing Heroin
During the search, officers found three mobile phones on Kanhukamwe. Suddenly, as a member of the public approached to speak to police, the dealer tried to swallow a packet of white powder. Quick-thinking officers stopped him just in time.
The packet burst open, scattering multiple wraps of heroin worth over £1,300 onto the ground. Kanhukamwe was taken to hospital as a safety precaution but was released and held in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station.
Dealer Jailed for 20 Months
With no fixed address, Kanhukamwe later pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to supply class A drugs. Yesterday, Peterborough Crown Court sentenced him to 20 months in prison.
“Kanhukamwe was found to have a significant amount of class A on him along with incriminating mobile phones,” said DC Chris Goodman, who led the investigation. “Trying to swallow the drugs was dangerous, but thanks to our officers’ quick reactions, he was stopped in time.
“I’m glad justice has been done today.”
