Brutal Murder of Aaron Pill: Two Sentenced to Life

Liam Bastow, 25, and Kane Coggin, 27, have been found guilty of murdering 25-year-old Aaron Pill in a shocking attack at his home. The verdict came at Truro Crown Court on 2 December after both men initially pleaded guilty to manslaughter back in May.

Fatal Attack at Tresawle Road

The court heard that emergency services rushed to Aaron’s residence on Tresawle Road shortly after midnight on 5 May. Aaron was discovered unconscious, bleeding heavily from a single stab wound to the abdomen. Paramedics confirmed his death at the scene.

CCTV Catches Chilling Break-in

Surveillance footage revealed Bastow and Coggin arriving at Aaron’s home just before 10pm on 4 May, wearing face coverings and baseball caps. The pair forcibly entered the property and attacked Aaron, inflicting the fatal stab wound.

Crucial Evidence Seized

  • Two knives found dumped in a nearby post box were recovered by police.
  • Victim’s blood was on both weapons.
  • Coggin’s DNA matched the knife used in the stabbing.

Both Bastow and Coggin were arrested days after the attack and charged following extensive police questioning.

Life Behind Bars for the Killers

Judge Carr sentenced both men to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years. Detective Inspector Costa Nassaris praised the hard work of officers involved, stating:

“This was a planned attack that ended the life of a young father in his own home. I thank Aaron’s family for their remarkable dignity and support throughout this investigation and trial. The national restrictions this year added many challenges, but our Major Crime Investigation Team stayed determined to bring these killers to justice.”
