Fire Rips Through London Flat in Early Hours
A massive blaze tore through half of a four-room flat on the second floor, sending smoke billowing through the building in the small hours. Four occupants escaped before firefighters arrived but were rushed to hospital by London Ambulance crews.
Firefighters Rescue More Residents
Fire crews heroically helped another four people from neighbouring flats to safety. Station Officer Adam Hills revealed the scene was thick with smoke as flames burst out from both the front and back of the building.
“This incident shows just how important it is to have working smoke alarms. When crews arrived, smoke alarms inside the property were sounding, giving the residents the earliest possible warning,” Hills said.
Safety Warning from the Brigade
Hills stressed the need for smoke alarms in every room where fires might start, especially where appliances are plugged in, plus heat alarms in kitchens and bathrooms. “They should be tested regularly,” he added.
