Brutal machete and shotgun attack leaves man fighting for life in broad daylight
Machete strike fractures victim’s neck
Keiron Hassan, 32, and Kamal Legall, 26, launched a savage attack outside a shop on Harris Avenue, Rumney. Hassan slammed a machete into the back of the victim’s neck, slicing a five-inch gash and breaking vertebrae.
Shotgun blast shatters femur
As the injured man lay stunned, Legall stood over him and fired a shotgun into his buttock, shattering his femur. DNA linked Legall to the shotgun, cartridges, and getaway vehicle, sealing their fate.
Victim fights for life after life-threatening injuries
Emergency teams rushed the victim to the University Hospital, where he underwent blood transfusions and hours of life-saving surgery. Thomas Edwards from the CPS condemned the “brutal attack in broad daylight with lethal weapons” that nearly ended in murder.
“The CPS presented strong, compelling evidence to the jury that both men were responsible and attempted to kill the victim, despite their denials. We hope the victim makes a good recovery from his serious injuries.”
Jail time: Duo locked up for 24 years
Both Hassan and Legall were convicted and handed a combined sentence totalling 24 years, mandated to serve at least two-thirds behind bars. Justice served for a horrific crime that shocked the community.
