M25 Clockwise Shut After Lorry Fire Between Romford and Thurrock
The M25 is CLOSED clockwise between Junction 29 (Romford) and Junction 30 (Thurrock) after a lorry crashed into the safety barrier and burst into flames.
Long Delays and Major Tailbacks
Motorists face severe traffic chaos with over 7 miles of crawl and delays topping 30 minutes. The standstill is causing knock-on gridlock on diversion routes and nearby roads. Avoid the area if you can.
An official diversion route is in place. Follow local signs marked with hollow triangles to dodge the jam.
Firefighters Battle Blaze on Granulated Coal Load
Essex Fire & Rescue revealed crews tackled a fierce fire involving an artic lorry loaded with about 20 tons of granulated coal, around 10% of which also caught fire.
The blaze was put out by 1:50pm. Firefighters handed the scene over to police and Highways England but warned the motorway could stay shut for most of the afternoon for cleanup and recovery.
Police Warn Drivers: No Filming at Crash Scenes
A number of drivers were seen and recorded filming the scene of the lorry RTC and fire on the M25 today with their mobile phones,” said Essex Police.
“These drivers will be contacted and face fines and points. It is not acceptable and it is illegal.”
Stay clear, stay safe – and keep your phone in your pocket.
