A man slammed a wine glass over another bloke’s head in a shocking, unprovoked assault — and now he’s been locked up for six years.
Shocking Unprovoked Attack in Guildford
Samuel South, 35, from Applegarth Avenue, Guildford, was sentenced at Guildford Crown Court on Friday (14 May). He was found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after the terrifying incident back on Sunday, 7 October 2018.
Police were called to a flat in Rokeby Court following reports of a serious assault. The victim was at the address with South and two others when South smashed a wine glass over his head out of nowhere.
Perp Caught Red-Handed Outside Woking Library
After the attack, South fled the scene still holding shards of the broken glass. Officers found him outside Woking Library moments later, where he reportedly said, “I knew you were coming for me anyway.” He was promptly arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.
Victim Left With Life-Changing Injuries
The victim suffered severe head injuries, requiring surgery. Some glass fragments had to remain embedded due to the risks of removal, leaving permanent scarring.
“This was a complete unprovoked attack which shows just how volatile and dangerous a man South is,” said Detective Constable Kerry Plumb, who led the investigation.
“Any kind of assault will not be tolerated in Surrey, and the behaviour exhibited by South will not be condoned.”
