Police Summer Camp Scores Big in Harrow
PC Ben Eynon, a youth engagement officer in Harrow, has pulled off a cracking week of fun for kids who couldn’t afford pricey summer sports camps. From 23 to 27 August, children aged 6 to 16 got to enjoy a variety of activities – all free of charge.
Breaking Barriers with Sport and Smiles
PC Eynon teamed up with local charity My Yard Harrow, who run a food bank and helped pinpoint the kids in need. Harrow School kindly opened its doors and facilities to host the camp. Even tougher troops pitched in – officers from the Met’s Territorial Support Group (TSG), the firearms unit, plus representatives from the Army and RAF ran workshops for the youngsters.
Police Prove Popular, Winning Over Tough Critics
“It was an absolutely amazing week. All the kids started off a bit tentative at first. Some of the older ones made it clear they weren’t fans of the police, but after a few days, they were loving the sports. One young man even told us ‘the police are actually alright’ and has become best mates with a couple of officers,” said PC Eynon.
The camp was made possible thanks to a grant from the John Lyon’s Charity School Holiday Activity Fund. Encouraged by the success, PC Eynon hopes to make this a yearly fixture.
