Man Arrested After Suspicious Activity at Empty Home
Kent Police swooped on a man caught red-handed at an empty property in Glenside Avenue late on Saturday, 4 September 2021. Officers were called at 11.50pm following reports of suspicious activity. The suspect was promptly arrested at the scene.
Raymond Roberts Faces Multiple Burglary Charges
39-year-old Raymond Roberts from The Street, Adisham, has been charged with burglary over stealing copper from the Glenside Avenue address. But that’s not all—he’s also charged with two more counts related to theft of copper piping and other items from two properties in Pyott Mews, canterbury/" title="Canterbury" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">Canterbury, between 13 and 18 August.
Roberts Remanded in Custody
Roberts appeared at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on Monday 6 September. He was remanded in custody and is set to return to court on a date yet to be fixed.
Police Warn Property Owners to Stay Vigilant
“Thefts of piping and other metal items from homes can cause considerable damage which is expensive to repair,” said Detective Constable Stacey Edwards of the East Kent CID.
“Property owners, especially those with rental homes, should regularly check their buildings when empty to make sure they’re secure and untouched. If you spot anything suspicious, report it immediately to Kent Police via our website, call 101, or dial 999 if a crime is happening.”
