Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run on Suffolk Road
Dorset Police were alerted at 1.35pm on Saturday, 23 October 2021, to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Suffolk Road.
The victim, 40-year-old Clare Gafan from Bournemouth, suffered life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital. Tragically, Clare died on Tuesday, 26 October.
Driver Flees Scene, Vehicle Found Hours Later
The driver reportedly fled the scene, heading towards Surrey Road. A black Audi A4 linked to the incident was later found stopped in Northamptonshire in the early hours of Sunday, 24 October.
Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT) launched a full investigation.
Suspect Charged with Manslaughter
Shaun Hall, 39, from Derby, has been charged with manslaughter. He is set to appear at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 29 October 2021.
A 41-year-old Derby woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Detective Inspector Wayne Seymour said: “Following a detailed investigation and consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, the charge has been authorised. Our thoughts are with Clare Gafan’s family during this difficult time.
“This case is now before the courts. It would be inappropriate for Dorset Police to comment further. We ask the public to avoid sharing information or commentary online that could prejudice the proceedings.”
