Brutal Rapist Jailed for 22 Years After Imprisoning Partner
Abdul Awil’s Horrific Four-Day Ordeal
Abdul Awil, 29, of Rainville Road, W6, has been handed a massive 22-year prison sentence for a shocking spree of violence against his partner. The Harrow Crown Court sentenced him on Friday, 10 December, for grievous bodily harm with intent, false imprisonment, and two counts of rape.
Awil was convicted at the same court back in August and slapped with a lifelong Restraining Order.
Terrifying Abuse Uncovered
The nightmare began between 28 September and 1 October 2020. After a birthday party, Awil locked his partner inside their home in Kensington. He brutally assaulted her, forcing her into a room, denying food or drink, and repeatedly beating her until she lost consciousness.
The victim managed to escape to a relative’s home after four days. Her cousin alerted paramedics, who called the police. Detective Constable Gemma Harkin described Awil’s behaviour as utterly unforgivable.
“Awil has, at every turn, denied responsibility for his actions. He took advantage of a vulnerable female who trusted him, and subjected her to such violence that no human being should ever have to endure,” said DC Harkin.
“The victim has displayed immense courage in coming forward, and we hope she finds some comfort in this sentence.”
Police Urge Victims to Speak Out
Detective Harkin added:
“I would urge any victims to please talk to us. We have specially trained officers working closely with partner organisations to provide the right support. Please do not suffer in silence – we are here to help and will do everything to pursue prosecutions and achieve justice.”
