New Arrests in Tragic Killing of Law Student Aya Hachem

Law student Aya Hachem, 19, was fatally struck by a stray bullet on May 17 as she walked past Quick Shine Car Wash on King Street. The bullet, fired from a passing Toyota Avensis, pierced Aya’s body and lodged in a telegraph pole.

Aya had been on her way to buy food for her family to break their Ramadan fast when tragedy struck.

Eight Jailed for Aya’s Murder – But The Case Isn’t Over

Last year, eight men were locked up for over 200 years combined for Aya’s murder and the attempted murder of intended target Pacha Khan.

Now, fresh arrests have shaken the case. Two more men—Suhayl Suleman, 37, of Blackburn, and Lewis Otway, 41, from Manchester—have been charged following a review of the evidence.

New Charges Follow Fresh Evidence Review

Both men were initially questioned early in the investigation but released without charge. However, advice from Nicholas Johnson QC, who represented the prosecution at trial, led the Crown Prosecution Service to green-light murder charges.

  • Suhayl Suleman was arrested in Blackburn.
  • Lewis Otway was detained last night in Dudley, West Midlands.

The pair are due in Preston Crown Court on Friday, January 28.
