Serving Met Police Officer Faces Terrorism and Child Image Charges
A probationary officer with the Metropolitan Police has been charged with multiple serious offences after a Counter Terrorism investigation.
Officer Accused of Terror Links and Fraud
Benjamin Hannam, 21, from north London, faces five charges, including membership of the banned far-right group National Action between December 2016 and January 2018.
He is also accused of lying on his police application and vetting forms by denying past National Action involvement, offences that fall under the Fraud Act 2006.
Child Abuse Image Allegations Rock Met
Hannam is charged with possessing indecent and prohibited images of children on two separate occasions in 2016 and 2018, violating the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and the Coroners and Justice Act 2009.
Suspended and Set for Court
The officer has been suspended from duty pending his court date. He is bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 6 August.
The Met Police said the charges follow a thorough investigation by their Counter Terrorism Command, highlighting their commitment to rooting out misconduct within the force.
