Woman Jailed for Keeping Brother’s Terror Plot Secret
A woman who stayed silent about her brother’s plan to launch a terrorist attack has been sentenced at Woolwich Crown Court.
Silent Sister Gets Suspended Sentence
Sneha Chowdhury, 26, from Luton, was caught in a six-month undercover probe by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command. They uncovered she knew about her brother’s deadly intentions but didn’t alert police.
Today, Sneha was handed a two-year prison sentence, suspended for two years, plus a 60-day rehabilitation order after being found guilty of failing to disclose information about terrorist activity.
Brother’s Chilling Plot
Her brother, Mohuissunnath Chowdhury, 29, who was sentenced last month to life behind bars, had chillingly told Sneha he planned “another attack” and even asked for help practicing stabbing – all of which she kept quiet.
“There is no acceptable reason for listening to someone say they are planning to kill innocent people, and watching them practice how they will do that, then not reporting it to police,” said Commander Richard Smith, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
“If relatives report early signs of radicalisation, authorities can step in before it’s too late. All it takes is a phone call.”
Police Urge Public to Speak Up
The Met urges anyone worried that a loved one might be radicalised or showing suspicious behaviour to report it confidentially.
