Chatham Nuisance Lee Swift Hit with Five-Year Court Order
Lee Swift, 43, from High Street, Chatham, has been slapped with a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) after racking up complaints from local businesses and residents. Magistrates handed down the order on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, aiming to curb Swift’s disruptive antics.
Swift’s Strict New Restrictions
- No loitering or lingering in High Street if asked to leave by police or community safety officers.
- Banned from approaching strangers anywhere in Medway to ask for money.
- Prohibited from sitting on the floor or hanging around outside any shop in Medway.
- Barred from entering any premises where he’s previously been banned.
- Not allowed to leave his belongings scattered in public spaces.
Any breach could land Swift straight behind bars.
The Crime Behind the Court Order
Kent Police secured the order after Swift pleaded guilty to stealing £100 from an ATM on High Street. The victim wasn’t even aware the cash had been dispensed.
Swift was also handed a 12-month community order and ordered to repay the homeowner.
Police Warn: Swift’s Behaviour ‘Unacceptable’
“We have repeatedly tried to engage with Lee Swift over a significant period of time but he has been completely unwilling to change his ways or address his own personal issues that have led to this self-destructive cycle,” said District Commander Chief Inspector Shona Lowndes.
“A Criminal Behaviour Order is only ever issued as a last resort when we can demonstrate that a person’s actions are ruining life for local people – which Swift has certainly done.
“The restrictions are tough but they’re a win for Medway’s community. If Swift continues his unacceptable behaviour, he risks prison time.”
