Derby Man Pleads Guilty to Terrorism and Child Abuse Charges
Thomas Leech of Derby Drive, Preston, has admitted to seven serious offences, including terrorism-related crimes and child abuse. The 12-month sentence was handed down today at Manchester Crown Court, alongside extended licence and long-term restrictions.
Terrorism and Hate Crime Charges
- Leech pleaded guilty to three counts of publishing statements intended to incite terrorism, breaching Section 1(2)(b)(i) of the Terrorism Act 2006.
- He also admitted to distributing threatening and abusive materials aimed at stirring up racial and religious hatred.
Shocking Child Abuse Offences Uncovered
- Police found he had made 215 indecent photos and pseudo-photographs of children.
- Following digital device examinations, he was arrested again in February 2021 on suspicion of further child abuse images.
Investigation and Sentencing Details
The case began in February 2020 when police investigated reports of Leech’s hateful online posts supporting extreme right-wing ideologies. Counter Terrorism Policing North West, assisted by Counter Terrorism Command, traced the abusive and racist comments directly to him.
Leech was initially arrested in November 2020 but brazenly posted more extremist material after being released on bail.
Now, Leech faces a 12-month extended licence after prison, 10 years on the sex offenders register, a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and a 10-year notification under the Terrorism Act 2008.
“Leech’s actions showed blatant disregard for the law and community safety,” said police sources. “This conviction sends a strong message that hate and abuse online will not be tolerated.”
