Drone Saves Woman Lost Near Gravesend River in Midnight Rescue
Woman Found Wandering Gravesend Industrial Site
Just before midnight on April 30, 2022, police received a worrying call about a lone woman seen walking through a Gravesend industrial area. She was navigating uneven mounds of sand, edging dangerously close to a river with the risk of falling or stepping into the water.
Drone Pilot Steps In Amidst Dark, Difficult Search
A patrol was sent out, but thick darkness and rough terrain made the search near-impossible on foot. That’s when PC Andy Green, a Roads Policing officer and qualified drone pilot, took over the aerial hunt.
Armed with a thermal camera, the drone quickly spotted the woman’s heat signature and directed officers straight to her location.
Rescue Ends Safely After Woman Found Confused
The distressed woman was found confused but unharmed, having got lost while trying to make her way home. After thorough welfare checks, she was safely escorted back.
PC Andy Green said: “The drone was vital in safely locating this woman, who was in serious danger of getting hurt. We got it airborne quickly, and real-time info guided ground teams to find her without delay.”
