Teen Extremist Busted with Far-Right Material in Widnes Raid

Mason Yates, 19, from Elstree Court, Widnes, was hauled in by cops in January 2021. A warrant led to a raid on his home, where officers found a stash of media devices loaded with extreme Right-Wing propaganda.

Phones Seized, Far-Right Files Discovered

Police dove into Yates’ phone and uncovered a trove of extreme Right-Wing images and documents. He was charged with two counts of gathering info likely to help someone commit or plan terrorism, breaching Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

Also Guilty of Possessing Extreme Pornography

Yates had already admitted guilt for holding an extreme pornographic image, breaking Section 63 of the Criminal Justice and Immigration Act 2003. This image was also found on a mobile device seized in the raid.

Detective Warns Communities to Stay Vigilant

CTPNW Detective Chief Inspector Clare Devlin said, “This was a thorough and comprehensive investigation that resulted in Yates facing 30 months in prison.”

“Today’s sentence shows our determination to tackle those who threaten society. Extremist views like these spread fear and mistrust in communities. We’re committed to cracking down hard.”

She added, “If you know someone promoting extremist ideas, call the UK Anti-Terrorism Hotline confidentially on 0800 789 321 or use the secure online form at Gov.uk/ACT.”

Every year, thousands report suspicious activity, helping police crush terror threats before they erupt. If you see or hear something off, trust your gut and ACT. Reporting could save lives. And remember: always call 999 in an emergency.
