Tragic Sea Rescue Hero Dies at Poppit Sands

Disaster struck at Poppit Sands near St Dogmaels, Pembrokeshire, on Friday evening. At around 8.40pm, police were called after several people became disoriented in the water.

Heroic Father Dies Saving Children

Hywel Morgan, 47, known as Hyw to family and friends, sadly died after being rescued from the sea, Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed. Two children involved were taken to hospital as a precaution.

Mr Morgan courageously helped save a group of children caught in a deadly rip current. His family hailed him as a “true hero” and a “devoted and loving father.”

“Hyw was a true hero. Despite our pain and grief, it gives us comfort that he tried selflessly to save others’ lives,” said the family. “He was a selfless person who always made time for others and was adored and respected by everyone who knew him.”

“As a family, we would like time to grieve and would appreciate privacy to do so.”
