Man Arrested Over Brutal Ilford Pickaxe Murder – Police Renew Desperate Appeal

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with a savage murder in Ilford – but they’re still begging for witnesses to come forward.

Night of Horror on Ilford High Road

Just after 2.45am on Sunday, 12 November, officers and paramedics rushed to High Road’s junction with Connaught Road. They found a man critically injured after a vicious fight. Despite emergency efforts, the victim died at an east London hospital at 4.35am.

Police believe the man is Sandel Serbu, 36, a Romanian national recently settled in Barking.

Blunt Force Trauma – Attack Was Brutal

A post-mortem on 16 November confirmed Mr Serbu died from severe blunt force trauma to the head. Detectives say the killers arrived in two cars and pounced as he got out of one vehicle where he was a passenger.

Police Hunt Witnesses and Video Evidence

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Considine of the Homicide and Major Crime Command said:

“There were multiple witnesses – people both in cars and on foot – who saw this deadly assault. We need these people to come forward now. If you caught anything on camera, your footage could be vital.”
