Burglar Busted! Canterbury Man Charged After Spate of Break-Ins and Vandalism
A man has been nabbed following a chaotic night of attempted burglaries and property damage in Canterbury.
Early Morning Break-In Attempts Spark Police Hunt
In the small hours of Saturday, 22 February 2025, Kent Police were flooded with calls about suspicious behaviour around Glenside Avenue. Officers found a man trying to break into homes and smashing up parked cars.
Minutes later, police raced to Hudson Road after reports of a forced entry. The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived but wasn’t off the hook for long.
While patrolling Glenside Avenue, cops spotted a man trying door handles. They tracked and arrested him hiding in a back garden on Regency Place.
Charges Laid Against Suspect
Malakai McCormack, 29, homeless, is now facing several serious charges:
- Burglary
- Attempted burglary
- Four counts of criminal damage
- Two counts of assault
- Possession of cocaine
McCormack appeared at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24 February. He was remanded in custody and will remain held until further court hearings.
Police Launch Witness Appeal
Detectives want anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Hudson Road and Military Road areas between 3:00 am and 4:30 am on the night of the crimes to come forward.
“We are urging anyone who may have witnessed anything out of the ordinary or who has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to come forward,” said a Kent Police spokesperson.
