A Suspected Rogue Trader Has Been Apprehended In Thanet

Rogue Trader Busted After Kent Police Sting

Kent Police snared a suspected rogue trader during a traffic stop in Thanet. The 25-year-old driver, from Lancing, West Sussex, was linked to a shocking scam that unfolded back in April 2022.

Victim Ripped Off Over Roof Repairs

A Westgate resident was duped after paying a cold-caller £45 to fix a loose roof tile. The man then convinced her to fork out another £1,650 for extra repairs – work that now appears totally unnecessary.

Multiple Fraud Charges and Ongoing Investigation

The Proactive Targeting Team tracked the vehicle to Tothill Street, Minster, and arrested the driver. He now faces fraud charges related to the Westgate scam. While in custody, officers also charged him with a similar offence in Sandwich.

He’s been released on bail but remains under close scrutiny by the Economic Crime Unit.

Police Issue Warning to Homeowners

“While most callers are decent, some will try to rip you off or trick you into costly or unnecessary work,” said Detective Chief Inspector Rob Harper. “Always be cautious when someone shows up unannounced offering to repair your home. Only agree to work you trust and get multiple written quotes before committing.”

If you or someone you know has been targeted by a rogue trader, report it immediately to Kent Police. Acting fast helps stop scammers from hurting others and protects your community from financial harm.
