Baby Boy, 7 Weeks Old, Dies After Head Injury in Burnley Tragedy
Emergency Called to Piccadilly Road
Police were called by the Ambulance Service to a home on Piccadilly Road at 12:10pm on Sunday, November 28, 2021. A seven-week-old baby boy, Abel-Jax Mailey, was found unresponsive by emergency crews.
Abel-Jax Rushed to Hospital but Dies Two Days Later
The infant was initially taken to hospital before being transferred to Manchester Children’s Hospital for specialist care. Despite efforts to save him, Abel-Jax sadly died on November 30.
A Home Office post-mortem revealed the cause of death was a head injury.
Man Charged with Murder, Woman Released
Following the tragedy, a man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of assault, later upgraded to murder charges. Oliver Mailey, 26, from Bowness Road, Burnley, has been charged with murder after consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service.
He is due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 13. The woman arrested has since been released without further action.
