Blazing Nightmare in Hawkhurst! Bonfire Ignites Hedge, Grass, and Outbuilding

Kent Fire and Rescue raced to Water Lane, Hawkhurst, after a hedgerow fire exploded out of control. Three fire engines battled flames that had ripped through hedges, grassland, and even a nearby outbuilding. Firefighters doused the blaze using powerful hose reel jets, quickly bringing the fire under control.

Thankfully, nobody was hurt. Investigations suggest the blaze started accidentally from a nearby bonfire.

Firefighters Warn: Bonfires Can Quickly Turn Dangerous

Kent Fire and Rescue Service urges everyone to be cautious when lighting bonfires:

  • Keep bonfires small and manageable
  • Stay clear of vegetation and property
  • Never leave a bonfire unattended
  • Avoid bonfires during hot or windy weather
