Teen Girl Sexually Assaulted Near Town Centre
A 14-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Broadwater Crescent, close to the Man In The Moon pub. Police later confirmed the attack happened near Queensway, in the town centre.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
Detective Inspector Michael Macbeth said, “The victim is continuing to receive support from specially-trained officers. I want to reassure her and the local community that we’re doing everything possible to crack this case. She showed immense bravery by coming forward.”
18-Year-Old Arrested and Released on Bail
Following a thorough investigation, police arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of rape on Tuesday night, July 26. He has since been released on bail as inquiries continue.
Officers believe the suspect is known to the victim, meaning this is no longer treated as a stranger attack.
