Thousands Flood London Streets After Chris Kaba Shooting

April’s tragedy struck London hard as 24-year-old Chris Kaba was shot dead by a Metropolitan Police officer during a tense arrest attempt in south London. The shooting sparked fury across the capital, with thousands rallying for justice.

Met Police Launch Homicide Probe

Chris was hit by a single bullet during the police operation. Officers had stopped his car after an automatic number plate reader flagged it in connection with a firearms offence. Although armed police cornered the vehicle, Chris was unarmed. CPR efforts failed to save his life. The Met immediately launched a homicide investigation, covering both murder and manslaughter.

Family and Community Demand Accountability

Chris’s loved ones are devastated and convinced racial bias played a role. His family insisted, “He would still be alive if he had been white.” They organised a march from Parliament Square to Scotland Yard on September 10th, drawing hundreds of supporters.

Stormzy: “This Is About Us, Not Me”

Grime star Stormzy took to the stage to support the grieving community. “I was hesitant to come up here,” he said, “because they try to turn this into something about me. But it’s not about me. It’s about Chris, his family, and everyone grieving.”

“Chris has a mother, brothers, and friends who have known him all their lives. This is unbearable for them,” Stormzy added.

“I encourage everyone to have stamina. We get tired of tweeting and marching, but they know that. We have to keep going. They murdered someone. Your family needs you.”

He reminded the crowd that Chris “could’ve been your brother, your uncle, or your nephew” and urged unity and love among protesters. The rapper left to roaring applause outside Scotland Yard.

Official Reactions and Next Steps

London Mayor Sadiq Khan conveyed his “heartfelt sympathies” to Chris’s family. He acknowledged the pain and anger felt by Black Londoners and promised to push for answers. “There are many unanswered questions,” Khan said, “and I want to reassure all of London’s communities I will continue to press for justice and change.”
