Kent Test Results Out Today – What Parents Need to Know

Pupils who sat this year’s Kent Test can finally find out their results today. Parents who registered online will receive an email from Kent County Council after 4pm on Tuesday 18 October with their child’s assessment outcome. From 5pm onwards, those families can also log in online to view detailed scores.

Beware: Due to the sheer volume of emails, some messages might land late in your inbox — this is beyond the council’s control. Families without a valid email address will get their results by first class post.

Record Numbers Sit the Test – Who Made the Grade?

  • A massive 17,049 children took the Kent Test this year, including 11,532 from Kent and the rest from neighbouring areas.
  • Out of the Kent locals, 5,147 pupils were deemed suitable for grammar school.

Shellina Prendergast, Kent County Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said: “This is a significant day for all pupils who sat the Kent Test this year.”

She urged families not to panic if results weren’t as hoped. “Kent has a rich mix of selective and non-selective schools. Look carefully at all your options when applying for secondary school.”

Apply Now: Secondary School Deadline Looms

Secondary school applications for Kent residents are open now but close on Monday 31 October 2022. Remember, passing the Kent Test doesn’t guarantee a spot at a grammar school. It simply allows your child to be considered for any Kent grammar school listed on the Secondary Common Application Form (SCAF).

Places will be allocated based on each school’s admissions criteria, with priority given to Kent children assessed as suitable grammar candidates. There are 5,566 grammar school places available across the county. Most kids will secure a place within their local authority area.

Families should use all four options on their SCAF. Choosing fewer schools won’t boost your chances.

Extra Help & Support for Parents

Christine McInnes, Kent County Council’s Director of Education, thanked staff for their hard work running the Kent Test and the Head Teacher Assessment (HTA) Panel.

The HTA Panel offers a lifeline for children who don’t meet the score threshold but show potential based on school achievements and work samples. Primary schools can refer pupils to this panel for reconsideration.
