Two Young Men Shot Dead on Railton Road

Tragedy struck on Sunday, 30 October, when 23-year-old Guilherme Messias Da Silva and 27-year-old Lemar Rashawan Urqhart were fatally shot on Railton Road, SE24. The brutal incident has shocked the local community and sparked an urgent police investigation.

Police Race to Catch Gunman

Detective Chief Inspector Sal Minhas from Specialist Crime said: “Our thoughts continue to be with the family and friends of Guilherme and Lemar. We are working around the clock to identify and arrest those involved in this incident. The death of these two young men is a stark reminder of the work we need to do to tackle violent crime in our communities.”

He added a plea: “While a number of people have come forward with information, we urge anyone else with details to contact us on 0208 721 4961 or Crimestoppers, who guarantee strict confidentiality.”

Shots Fired After Collision

Police were called at about 7.50pm after reports of gunshots in the Railton Road area. Officers, including armed units, rushed to the scene alongside London Ambulance Service and Air Ambulance crews.

Guilherme and Lemar were found injured but tragically died at the scene despite emergency efforts.

Detectives believe two cars were involved in a collision with Guilherme’s moped. One vehicle then smashed into parked cars. Lemar exited one of the vehicles but was chased by a man armed with a firearm from the second car.

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation

Chief Superintendent Colin Wingrove of Central South Command Unit, responsible for Lambeth and Southwark, said: “More than a week on, my thoughts remain with the loved ones of Guilherme and Lemar, who tragically lost their lives.”

He confirmed officers remain visible in the area to reassure the community, while Specialist Crime detectives continue piecing together the events leading to the shootings.
