Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a fatal collision on the A13 at the Pitsea flyover. The incident occurred shortly before 2:30pm on Saturday, July 1, and involved a single vehicle.
Tragically, an 18-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the car, lost her life at the scene of the collision. Her family has been informed and is receiving support from specialized officers during this difficult time.
The remaining four occupants of the vehicle were also injured and are currently receiving medical treatment at the hospital. Two of them are in critical condition, emphasizing the severity of the incident.
Emergency services, including Essex Fire and Rescue and the ambulance service, were present at the scene, and due to concerns regarding falling debris, the road beneath the flyover had to be temporarily closed. The closure caused significant traffic disruption in the area, and the A13 remained closed for several hours until it was reopened at approximately 11pm that night.
Detective Sergeant Sam Nason from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit expressed condolences, stating, “This was a tragic collision, and our thoughts are with those involved. We are actively conducting multiple inquiries, including speaking with witnesses, reviewing CCTV footage, and examining dashcam recordings.
The police believe that there were several witnesses at the scene, some of whom provided assistance to those involved in the collision. Authorities are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or possesses relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward and share their information.
