Bradley Hughes, 35, from Woking, was sentenced to 24 years in prison plus eight years on extended licence at Guildford Crown Court on 30 April, following a three-week trial. He was found guilty of multiple sexual offences, including three counts of rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, stalking, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The offences involved two women and spanned 2022 and 2024.
Pattern Of Abuse Exposed
In 2022, Hughes relentlessly threatened and controlled one victim, subjecting her to psychological and physical abuse. On 26 July 2024, while staying at a London hotel with another woman, he accused her of infidelity and threatened to kill her, her friends, and former partners. His violent behaviour that night included kicking the hotel room door repeatedly, forcing the woman to barricade herself in a bathroom and call security for help.
Ongoing Harassment
Following the hotel incident, Hughes repeatedly turned up uninvited at the woman’s home and bombarded her with abusive messages and phone calls. His persistent stalking caused significant fear and distress.
Victims Courage Praised
“This was a deeply distressing case involving two victims who showed considerable strength and courage in coming forward and supporting this investigation. Violence of this nature has a lasting impact,” said Detective Constable Whibley. “Our priority has been to support the victims and ensure their voices were heard. This outcome shows offenders will be brought to justice.”
Powerful Victim Statement
In a moving impact statement, one victim addressed Hughes directly: “No one should be in fear of their life or the lives of others. No one should be made to feel the way I’ve felt. While this chapter ends today, I’ll always carry the scars you left. But after today, you will never look at me again. Hear me: what you did does not define me; my strength does.”
