Girls’ Pebble Power Brightens Up Holmfirth Police Station

Youngsters Inspire with Colourful Pebble Art

The Kirklees Rural Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) has praised a group of Newsome Academy girls for sparking positivity at Holmfirth Police Station. During the Spring Bank Half Term, the girls created “positive pebbles” emblazoned with empowering slogans to boost morale among female staff.

Creative Club Funded by Safer Communities Fund

The free “Be You” Holiday Club, organised by PC Sally Baines, Newsome Academy’s Safer Schools Police Officer, saw the girls get creative while building confidence. The club was funded by the Mayor of West Yorkshire’s Safer Communities Fund and offered a variety of activities, including the standout project of decorating large pebbles.

From Displaced Rocks to Inspiring Messages

PC Baines spotted a pile of pebbles knocked loose during recent building work at Holmfirth Station. With permission from Inspector Vanessa Briggs, she gathered a bagful for the girls to paint. Slogans like “Girl Power”, “Be a voice not an echo” and “Girls can do anything” soon transformed the plain stones into colourful motivators.

Official Praise for Confidence and Creativity

Inspector Vanessa Briggs met with students Miracle Williams and Emmanuella Ademunmi to arrange the pebbles in an eye-catching display visible to all who visit the station.

“I’m really impressed with the beautifully decorated pebbles, each carrying messages I champion myself,” Inspector Briggs said. “It was lovely to meet two confident and assured young ladies who shared their positive outlook. They’ve created a colourful, thought-provoking display outside our station.”

PC Sally Baines added: “The Holiday Club was about fun, creativity, self-confidence, and safety. The girls loved decorating pebbles to inspire staff at Holmfirth Station. Thanks to the Mayor’s Safer Communities Fund, it was free to attend. We’ve got three more clubs planned for the summer holidays across Kirklees, so watch this space for more pebbles!”
