Knife-Wielding Burglar Gets Three Years for Laundrette Raid
Joel Reed smashed into Monarch Coin Laundry on Mill Road with a crowbar and screwdriver on 24 March. He broke into a rear office, desperate for cash.
Despite the violent break-in, Reed made off with just £15. His luck ran out when two customers entered the shop. He threatened them with a knife before they fled in fear.
Quick-Thinking Public Calls the Cops
As Reed attempted his escape on a bike, a witness hid nearby and dialled 999. CCTV footage quickly identified him, and police arrested Reed at his home on Cromwell Road, Cambridge.
The shoes Reed wore matched footprints left at the scene—further sealing his fate.
Jail Time for Aggravated Burglary and Knife Charge
At Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday, Reed, 30, was sentenced to three years behind bars. He had earlier pleaded guilty to aggravated burglary and carrying a blade in public.
