Stewart Kilty, a 46-year-old resident of Upper Tulse Hill in Brixton, has been granted bail after pleading guilty to charges of indecent exposure and outraging public decency. The incidents involved Kilty exposing his genitals to cause alarm or distress to others. The first charge relates to an incident in Dover on 3 August 2022, while the second charge pertains to an incident in Bromley where he stripped naked in a graveyard and lay down on top of a grave.
In addition to these charges, Kilty has also pleaded guilty to two counts of using threatening, abusive, and insulting words or behaviour with intent to cause harassment, alarm, or distress, one count of racially or religiously aggravated intentional harassment, one count of failing to comply with a community order, and one count of failing to surrender to police bail.
Kilty appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 7 July, for his scheduled sentencing. However, the court adjourned the sentencing as the relevant reports, which were ordered by the court, had not been produced.
Despite Kilty’s history of failing to attend court while on police bail, the court decided to release him on conditional post-conviction bail until his next court date, which is expected to take place in late July.
The decision to grant bail to Kilty, who had been held in prison, has raised concerns, particularly considering the nature of the offences and his previous non-compliance with court appearances. The adjournment of the sentencing due to the absence of the required reports has further added to the delay in delivering justice in this case.
The release on bail allows Kilty to remain free until his next court appearance, where the court will have the necessary reports for consideration during sentencing.
The case has attracted attention due to the bizarre and disturbing nature of Kilty’s actions, as well as the delay in bringing him to justice. The public will now have to wait until the next court date to see the conclusion of this disturbing case.
