Sussex Police: While we cannot be present everywhere at all times, we possess the capability to be present at any location at any given time.

This fact became evident when a man was encountered by patrolling officers in Crawley, leaning into a car that did not belong to him. Prompt and efficient investigations unveiled his connection to various other offences, leading to his subsequent arrest, charging, and remand for multiple offences.

On Wednesday, July 5, James Eastwood, aged 37 and without a fixed address, appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court. He entered a guilty plea for charges including possession of cocaine, possession of cannabis, obstructing police in the execution of their duties, theft from a motor vehicle, burglary with intent to steal, and using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm, or distress.

This incident occurred after his apprehension by police on Sunday, July 2, in Ifield Road, Crawley. Eastwood has pleaded not guilty to an additional charge of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in remand for trial, the date of which is yet to be determined.

Oli Robinson, a member of Crawley CID, remarked, “Theft from vehicles and burglaries are often subjects of concern within local communities and social media, and we acknowledge the impact this has on the victims. In this particular instance, a proactive intervention swiftly led to the recovery of items belonging to at least two different victims, which can now be returned.”
