The 54-year-old was convicted of 10 offences, including violent assaults, rape, indecent communication, sexual activity with an older child he met online, abduction, and domestic abuse.
The crimes committed by Scott took place between 1985 and 2021 in various areas of Scotland, including West Lothian, Clackmannanshire, and Dumfries and Galloway. During the trial at the High Court in Edinburgh, Scott continued to deny any wrongdoing, claiming that his relationship with one of the child victims was consensual and blaming her for “seducing” him. The judge, Lady Haldane, described the crimes against the child victims as “particularly disturbing.”
Scott was sentenced to an Order for Lifelong Restriction, which means he must serve a minimum of six and a half years in prison before being considered for parole. Additionally, he has been placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely. A report from the Criminal Justice Social Work highlighted Scott’s high-risk profile, emphasizing his psychopathic tendencies stemming from a traumatic childhood and anxiety. The report also noted his lack of insight into his behavior and its impact on others.
Detective Sergeant Lynn Morrison of Police Scotland praised the victims for their bravery in coming forward and reporting Scott’s crimes. She encouraged anyone who has experienced sexual abuse, regardless of when it occurred, to report the incidents, assuring them that thorough investigations will be conducted to bring perpetrators to justice.
