In a devastating incident on Tuesday, a suicide bombing near a truck carrying paramilitary forces in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar has left at least eight people wounded, according to police reports.
The explosion occurred on a busy road in Hayatabad, a suburb of Peshawar and the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which shares a border with Afghanistan. Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a newly formed armed group, has claimed responsibility for the attack. Just last week, the same group targeted a military base in the southwestern province of Balochistan, resulting in the death of four soldiers.
Medical Director Shehzad Akbar Khan of Hayatabad Medical Complex confirmed that two individuals were admitted to the hospital in stable condition, while the remaining injured were taken to a military hospital for treatment.
The targeted attack specifically struck a vehicle belonging to the paramilitary Frontier Corps, as reported by police officials to Reuters. The truck sustained severe damage, and nearby civilian vehicles were also affected by the blast. The suicide bomber responsible for the attack was killed in the incident.
Following these recent attacks, Pakistan’s army expressed deep concern over the presence of militants finding safe havens in neighbouring Afghanistan. In response to the deaths of 12 Pakistani soldiers in two separate attacks, the army warned of an “effective response” against those responsible.
