Push in Leicester Ends in Tragedy: Man Dies After Cardiac Arrest
Jentilal Deugi was fatally injured following a clash on Redcar Road, Leicester, on Sunday, 31 May. The victim was pushed to the ground during the dispute and suffered a cardiac arrest.
He died in hospital two days later. A post-mortem confirmed he died from brain injuries that triggered the cardiac arrest.
Attacker Charged and Jailed for Manslaughter
Yashvant Pranlal, 22, was first arrested for Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH). After Mr Deugi’s death, he was re-arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and charged, along with perverting the course of justice.
On 17 October, Pranlal, formerly of Green Lane Road, Leicester, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. The perverting justice charge was dropped.
Today (Friday 16 October), Leicester Crown Court sentenced Pranlal to four years and six months behind bars.
Detective’s Somber Warning After Fatal Push
“There are certainly no winners in this case,” said Detective Inspector Jonathan Blockley of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team. “One family has lost their loved one and another now faces considerable time apart from their family.
“One push led to the end of a life. My sympathies go to Mr Deugi’s family, who have shown immense dignity throughout this difficult investigation.”
DI Blockley also thanked the local community for their assistance. The attack happened in a busy area witnessed by many.
“The weight of the evidence has led to today’s outcome. Pranlal had no choice but to plead guilty to manslaughter,” he added.
