The Metropolitan Police has come under scrutiny after a video surfaced on social media, showing the arrest of a woman in front of her young son after getting off a bus in Croydon. The incident has sparked outrage as it highlights concerns about police conduct.
The video, which has been widely circulated on social media, captured the moment when officers handcuffed the woman during a joint revenue protection operation with Transport for London inspectors.
According to the police’s statement, the woman had left the bus after a revenue inspector requested to check her ticket. When asked to stop by the police, she allegedly attempted to walk off and became abusive, leading to her arrest on suspicion of fare evasion.
However, the situation took a dramatic turn when it was later revealed that the woman did have a valid ticket, resulting in her immediate de-arrest and release. The incident took place in Whitehorse Road, Croydon, and the woman was accompanied by her young son, which adds to the distressing nature of the video.
In response to the incident, Florence Eshalomi MP expressed concern over the video, urging the public to be cautious in sharing it to protect the young boy who was reportedly traumatised by the situation. Several other colleagues have also raised the issue with the Mayor of London.
